Choose From A Variety Of Bowls Tournaments
From Indoor Bowls to Short Mat, from Pro Coaching to Carpet Bowls, we have a huge range of different Bowls tournaments that are offered throughout the year at our venues.
Each format is very popular, with many guests rebooking year on year. Some of our tournaments are also exclusive to only one of our locations, so it’s important to book your bowls break well in advance!
While the tournaments differ, each break offers the chance to enjoy friendly competition with like minded guests, have fun with lifelong friends or making new ones. Our bowls tournaments are included in our break, unless otherwise stated.
It’s important to register your participation in our bowls tournaments at time of booking, as playing schedules are arranged in advance of your break. It is therefore not possible to accept late entries to tournaments.
Indoor Bowls Breaks
Indoor bowls is perhaps the most popular format and played widely across the country, with many clubs participating in leagues and national competitions. You can enjoy free-to-enter indoor bowls tournaments at both Hopton-on-Sea and Five Lakes throughout the typical indoor season of September to May.
Format:
• Teams of four
• Three guaranteed games (up to 90 mins each)
• Knockout matches for top performing teams
• Teams will typically play four round robin games (occasionally three depending on participant numbers) of up to 90 minutes per game.
Annual Association Breaks
We are pleased to host three bowls association breaks throughout the year, exclusively at Hopton-on-Sea. These breaks are designed for both your enjoyment as well as to support associations with funds to help further promote the sport.
Format:
• Bowls England
• English Bowling Federation (EBF)
• English Carpet Bowls Association (£10 supplement payable to ECBA)
Pro Coaching Breaks
Exclusive to Five Lakes, these breaks are designed to enhance your game, with the ever popular Andy Thomson MBE delivering fun and educational coaching sessions. You’ll also enjoy stories from inside the game, relaxed tournament sessions and competitions as well as a Q&A session with Andy, a 3-time World Indoor Bowls Champion and true legend of the sport.
Please note, these breaks do not feature an Indoor Bowls Tournament.
Bridge and Fun Bowls
These popular breaks which feature at both Resorts in 2023, are perfect for those wishing to combine two popular pastimes.
Hosted by Eddie & Kathy Williams who we’ve worked with at Potters for over ten years, you can play afternoon and evening bridge tournaments with a fun bowls session each morning. Whether you’re an experienced bridge or bowls player or just starting out, Eddie & Kathy will take excellent care of you.
Please note, these breaks do not feature an Indoor Bowls Tournament.
Carpet Bowls
Carpet Bowls was devised as a variation to indoor bowls but on a much smaller scale. Whilst the principal aim remains the same, carpet bowls is played on a temporary surface approximately 30 feet long and 6 feet wide. The woods are also smaller, but still biased to allow players to avoid the 18 inch circular block in the middle of the mat.
We host two carpet bowls break each year, exclusively at Hopton-on-Sea.

Bowls International Celebrity Breaks
Running alongside an indoor bowls tournament, guests also have the opportunity to learn tips and tricks from some of the top bowlers in the game and ask any burning bowls questions in a Q&A session, plus a few lucky guests get the chance to bowl alongside the pros in our traditional ‘Celebrity Match’.
These popular breaks are hosted by Bowls International Magazine exclusively at Hopton-on-Sea in April and November.
Outdoor Bowls
Potters Resorts offers the perfect venue for bowls club to enjoy their annual outdoor tour throughout the summer season, with both of our resorts providing a fantastic all-inclusive break for your base.
With a number of well established and welcoming clubs within a short distance of our resorts, our team will help you touch base with local clubs to bring your tour schedule together. And we’ll even provide you with packed lunches on days where you’re out playing over our lunch service.
Although we do not advertise a specific outdoor break, our experienced bowls organisers will always be happy to discuss any requirements you may have, including hosting your own private events.
